Principle of operation
The working principle of light-emitting diodes (leds) is based on the properties of semiconductor materials. When an electron passes through a semiconductor material, it binds to the hole and releases energy. This energy is released in the form of photons, forming visible light. Leds are composed of two semiconductor materials, one is P-type material and the other is N-type material. When an electric current is passed through the LED, the electrons and holes combine at the junction of the PN junction, releasing energy, which results in visible light. Different semiconductor materials produce different colors of light, so leds can emit different colors of light.
